Natural degradation of chlordecone

Natural degradation of chlordecone

Chlordecone is a pesticide widely used in the West Indies to protect banana trees but which today pollutes soils and its endocrine disrupting activity could contribute to the development of cancers. In collaboration with researchers of the Genoscope (Evry) and of IRD, The ICSN NMR team and service helped to demonstrate that chlordecone could degrade in soils and to characterize its degradation products. The issues and impacts of this encouraging study were recently presented in the newspapers La Croix, an article and an interview on radio France Ô, as well as to the 20h news from France 2 TV channel (from 4min11).
